Queensland Smoke Alarm Compliance Checklist – 2025
1Smoke Alarm Type* Photoelectric alarms only (no ionisation)
* Alarms less than 10 years old
* 10 year sealed lithium battery or 240V hardwired
2 Location Requirements * One alarm in every bedroom
* One alarm in hallways connecting bedrooms
* At least one alarm on every storey
3Interconnection * All alarms interconnected (wireless or hardwired)
* All alarms trigger together when one activates
4Installation Rules * Ceiling mounted (preferred)
* If wall-mounted: 300–500mm below ceiling
* Minimum 300mm from corners
* Minimum 400mm from fans or aircon vents
5Testing & Operation* All alarms tested and sounding correctly
* Audible from all bedrooms
* No dust, insects, or contamination
6 Selling / Renting Compliance * Home meets all QLD 2027 requirements
* Compliance documented pre settlement / lease
* Installer compliance form provided
