Monthly

Test each alarm using the test button

Check that all interconnected alarms activate together

Ensure alarms are free from dust, insects, and cobwebs

Visually confirm no damage, loose
fittings, or signs of moisture

Check for unusual beeping (fault, low battery, contamination)

Renovations

Clean alarms thoroughly (vacuum + wipe)

Check for debris, dust or paint inside vents

Ensure alarms were not moved, painted over, or damaged

Re-test interconnection

If false alarms occur repeatedly, consider replacement

Chirp

Single chirp every 30–60 seconds:

Low battery (replace if applicable)

End-of-life signal (replace alarm)

Random or intermittent chirping:

Dirty sensor (vacuum)

Insects inside (clean or replace)

Wiring issue (for hardwired alarms)
